The tapering of the resonator sidewalls gives this banjo a very large tonal upgrade, while still keeping the cost down. Tapered resonator sidewalls help get all of the harmonic frequencies generated when you play the banjo out of the resonator giving the banjo a much richer, fuller tone. This is usually just found on Deering banjos at the Calico price point and up.
